Where was last week’s blog post?

Okay, so Amazon is not the best place for buying home improvement goods. I am still confident in the tools I have recommended but the light fixture I ordered was not reviewed positively.

People reading this blog are better off getting their supplies from other sources, so I am working on making a connection to a better store to link to. I will hold the blog back a few more days to see if my new collaboration plans pan out and if not still publish the blog regardless.

Any other projects?

Yes, I have been staying busy and one of the better things I have done to my house is ripping up the carpet in the bedroom. It took a while to convince my wife as she does not like to step onto cold floors. However, between the carpet not looking the best and the new flea problem it was enough to push her to say yes.

The reason for the carpet removal

Although the carpet did not look bad I knew otherwise as I had removed the office carpet when we moved in. I am sure if my wife saw the office carpet she would have asked for the bedroom carpet to be removed as well.

The arrow points to the wooden planks/boards which hold the carpet in place.

My advice with buying a home is if you don’t know the age of the carpet pull it up a bit. There are wooden planks that hold the carpet down and if pulled up on slightly will reveal what’s underneath. Sometimes one can get lucky and there is hardwood underneath like ours.

If the carpet is heavily stained or smells bad and there is no hardwood underneath it might be best to replace it or put wood floors in.

The hardwood floor underneath our carpet.
I used a more costly Walmart brand but this is cheaper and looks the same. These staple removers are great and they will pull the boards from the first photo up with a bit of finesse.

Conclusion

For the two of us, the decision was easy as we have very acceptable-looking hardwood floors underneath but I know not everyone has decent floors hiding away. Regardless, I do believe the project should be considered as it was easy and if wood or nice carpet is put down then one could easily make their money back in the value added to the home. Anyway, that is all I have for you so I hope you enjoyed the post!
